Innovative tech talent accelerator honored with both Military Times’ 2022 Best for Vets: Employers award and the 2022 HIRE Vets Medallion Award from the U.S. Department of Labor
JACKSONVILLE, FL, November 10, 2022 — Tech talent accelerator SkillStorm today announced that it has been recognized with two national awards for service to veterans: Military Times’ 2022 Best for Vets: Employers award and the 2022 HIRE Vets Platinum Medallion Award, presented by U.S. Secretary of Labor Martin J. Walsh. SkillStorm’s unique training platform offers a range of custom-built 12-to-36-month registered IT apprenticeship programs for transitioning servicemembers and veterans with a strong aptitude for technology, including registered IT apprenticeships, VET TEC programs, and the Emerging Tech program, which hires, trains, and certifies entry-level tech talent before deploying them at Fortune 500 companies.
“Our work at SkillStorm is about not just providing veterans with a great place to work, but also creating new pathways to opportunity by expanding access to training in high-demand tech skills,” said John Tansill, Director of Veteran Affairs at SkillStorm. “We’re proud to be recognized for our ongoing commitment to boosting economic mobility for the veteran community.”
SkillStorm earned the HIRE Vets platinum award, which recognizes companies where at least 10 percent of employees are veterans and 85 percent of veterans are retained for 12 months after being hired, after applying earlier this year. The Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act (HIRE Vets Act) Medallion Program is the only federal award program that recognizes employers who successfully recruit, hire, and retain veterans. In addition to its commitment to hiring veterans, SkillStorm also works to support the veteran community through its training and apprenticeship programs; one-third of learners who have gone through SkillStorm’s programs are former service members.
As a winner of the 2022 HIRE Vets Medallion Award, SkillStorm joins 834 other companies from 49 states, plus the District of Columbia, who have shown a commitment to hiring veterans, but also ensuring that they have a long-term career and growth plan that uses the diverse skills they acquired through their military service. Recipients of the award meet rigorous employment and veteran integration assistance criteria, including veteran hiring and retention percentages; availability of veteran-specific resources; leadership programming for veterans; dedicated human resource efforts; pay compensation and tuition assistance programs for veterans. More than 1,400 employers have earned a HIRE Vets Medallion Award since 2018.
“Too often, veterans returning to the civilian workforce face barriers in the hiring process that can lock them out of opportunities to access economic mobility,” said Justin Vianello, CEO of SkillStorm. “This is about creating opportunities for veterans to access the industry-recognized credentials that today’s employers demand — and that lead to well-paying, resilient careers in the U.S. economy’s fastest-growing industries.”
The Best for Vets: Employers rankings are based on a survey conducted by Military Times that seeks detailed information on policies and practices related to making companies an attractive place to work for members of the military community.
