In today’s rapidly changing world of application development a candidate cannot just rely on technical skills alone. They must also possess soft skills.
We’ve all been in those situations when someone clearly had deep technical knowledge, yet wasn’t able to convey it in terms that the business could understand. Alternatively, we’ve seen individuals gifted in presenting, get totally derailed by simple technical questions.
To succeed today, application developers and software engineers must possess up to date technical skills in the high-demand application areas and have the ability to clearly present their ideas and project updates to both management and peers. They must also be able to work as part of a team and adapt to teammates from differing backgrounds and cultures.
For this reason, SkillStorm, as part of its workforce development model of recruit, train, certify, and deploy places great emphasis on deep technical training combined with soft skill development.
As our SkillStorm Recruits (aka Stormers), go through our multi-week training and certification process, they learn high-demand technologies such as Pega and Amazon Web Services. While we focus heavily on teaching the technology, we also prioritize the development of soft skills that will transfer over to real-world experience.
We believe that by learning these skills, they will better be able to work as a team and therefore, be more successful.
Our program also spends a considerable amount of time developing real applications which students then present to our trainers and peers for feedback. By giving them this experience, we’ve found that it shortens the time to productivity when placed on a client project and puts them on an overall trajectory for long term career success.
