Enrollment for non-degree credentials has skyrocketed at community colleges since 2022, increasing by 80,000 enrollments. These non-degree, micro-credentials courses enable individuals without degrees to quickly enter the tech workforce by earning certifications in just a few months but can also help those pursuing a degree to stand out in the job market.

Wichita State University Campus of Applied Science and Technology (WSU Tech) has focused on incorporating relevant tech credentials from industry leaders like AWS into their curriculum. In partnership with SkillStorm, WSU Tech has successfully integrated the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner micro-credential into their credit-bearing course. This will give students an advantage in the job market by equipping them with the certifications that employers seek.

Improving the alignment between classroom instruction and employer needs can enhance the workforce pipeline, leading to more favorable outcomes for both learners and employers.
